About the project

The new sportsfield carpark at the University of Technology’s (QUT) Kelvin Grove replaces the existing Sports Lane Oval, providing much needed car parking along with an enhanced sporting facility for teaching and learning requirements and student recreational sporting activities.

The design included a new three-storey mixed use building, a multi-storey car park providing 800 undercover carparking spaces, a FIFA accredited synthetic football field located on the rooftop with playing and teaching facilities.

The design also involved infrastructure upgrades to Herston Road and Sports Lane to accommodate increased traffic and provide safe egress for vehicles onto the Kelvin Grove campus. The design of a bridgelink walkway provides pedestrian connection to the University’s upper campus.

Care was taken by the design team to craft a Stadium appearance for the design proposal, integrating the car park yield into the landscape. A fast-tracked delivery method was adopted by the client with project conception through to handover in less than 15 months.
