About the project
A modernisation and extension to replace the original Owen J Wordsworth (OJW) Conference Venue, located in a prominent rooftop location at the Queensland University of Technology’s Gardens Point Campus overlooking the Brisbane River.
The space caters for up to 200 guests with flexible audio visual and furniture settings to provide for conference, lecture, workshop, cocktail or dining settings.
The Conference Venue seeks to enhance the arrival sequence and facilitates key views to the Brisbane River, Mount Coo-tha and City.
The spaces have been designed to encourage interaction and provide places of refuge. A key project objective was to provide weather protection to the building’s river terraces from the North West and North East. This has been achieved through long cantilevered roof spans with proportional building forms respectful of the original form of S block.
A rich, high quality yet unassuming palette of materials has been used to ensure longevity of finishes and style. The design account’s a modern take of traditional “Queenslander” spaces and decoration.
