About the Project
The refurbishment of Nareeba Moopi Moopi Pa Aged Care Facility at Dunwich, North Stradbroke Island provides holistic care supporting the Aboriginal elder’s desire to remain on country, close to family and friends, and further encourage the spiritual and economic wellness of the residents that goes beyond the absence of illness and ageing. The design is underpinned by a deep community engagement process which informed the brief and was supported by research and evidence based design founded upon the work of Kaplan, Ulrich and Fleming on health, sustainable built environment and good aged care principles.
Through research and our experience on precedent projects, the design acknowledges the importance of family and kinship with a well-designed family care room that support residents end of life care experienced by enabling large extended families to visit at the same time maintaining privacy and day to day operations of the care facility.
