About the project
The Dakabin Station and multilevel carpark is an important modal interchange project part of the Queensland Rail Station Accessibility Upgrade Programme (SAUP) Tranche 3.
Design Strategy
Improved accessibility at Dakabin Station enables transport services, connectivity, safety and amenity for all rail customers with train platforms made accessible via paths, ramps and lifts. The upgrade works include:
- New covered footbridge with through lifts, ramps, stairs
- Raised section of platform encompassing the core zone and assisted boarding point
- New waiting shelters in the core area
- Upgraded accessible parking spaces
- New station building positioned centrally to boarding point, new customer ticket window, toilets
- New wayfinding and platform signage
- Upgraded services including security and lighting
- New services to the site including water and sewage
- New station entry area, forecourts and improved precinct amenity
Design Strategy
In addition to the core accessibility upgrade to the station, the project also incorporates:
- A new multi-storey commuter carpark with 350 car spaces
- Upgrade and realignment of Thompson Road
- Two new indented PTIM intermediate bus stops and shelters
- A secure bicycle enclosure facility
The design integrates prefabricated elements to reduce the impact of onsite construction and enable the stations continued operation during the project’s delivery. A robust materials palette and product selection carefully considers the enduring and public interface of rail infrastructure whilst providing improved amenity.
Considering the interface with the neighbouring context, the carpark is designed to sit within the landscape, minimising its bulk and scale. A new forecourt space welcomes commuters to the station platforms aiming to improve the overall experience of rail travel.
