In collaboration with Jim Fitzpatrick Architects (design architect and design director), Conrad Gargett was commissioned for the documentation and delivery of APEC Haus, Leaders' Conference Centre in Papua New Guinea.
APEC Haus was designed to host world leaders at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit meetings, held in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea (PNG) in November 2018.
The design of the building responds to PNG's strong trade and civic ambitions.
Its sculptural roof form references the traditional Motuan 'lagatoi' (lakatoi) sail of boats used to support trade between the islands of the Pacific. The interior design employs a material palette inspired by traditional materials of shell, clay, timber and metal.
