About the Project
—
ATSIP involves a unique collaboration between James Cook University and CSIRO. The design of the main building is derived from three key themes: collaboration, context and sustainable design.
The design supports collaboration between researchers by maximising openness and transparency, co-locating office and laboratory areas, providing formal and informal meeting spaces, and allowing users complete access to all parts of the building.
Preparation for the design involved key user group representatives and the design team touring recently completed laboratory facilities and preparing a report analysing the differing strategies used in each.
In addition, the design of the foyer as an interpretive centre and adjacent lecture room allows the facility to support interaction with the broader community.
