Sydney’s New Powerhouse Museum: Conrad Gargett + Steven Holl Architects Shortlisted in an International Design Competition

A shortlist of international and Australian architects selected to design the Powerhouse Museum’s new home on the banks of the Parramatta River has been announced. Sydney Morning Herald: “The six shortlisted teams have responded with promises of a building that reflects western Sydney’s identity and gives rise to new cultural and community expressions and justified excitement in the final results, Arts Minister Don Harwin said.” .. “With international experience in the arts, campus, and educational facilities, and complex urban projects, US-based Steven Holl Architects has also teamed up with Conrad Gargett, designer of [Queensland Theatre’s] Brisbane’s Bille Brown Theatre.” Each finalist team will develop design concepts and attend a site visit, after which they have three months to develop their concept designs to show to the public in a physical exhibition and online gallery before the international jury meets later this year to decide a winner.
