Regional commendation for Former Pioneer Shire Council Building

Conrad Gargett has been awarded a Regional Commendation at the Australian Institute of Architecture Central Queensland Regional Architecture Awards for its Heritage Conservation work on the Former Pioneer Shire Council Building in Mackay.

The Jury cited “Limited preservation was proposed for the derelict Former Pioneer Shire Council Building.  Clever financial management systematically gained approvals for increasing the scope of works.  In engaging further interest it is now used by a ‘not for profit’ community organisation, the beautifully restored building is now a valuable community resource.”

The Former Pioneer Shire Council Building will now progress to the Queensland State Architecture Awards to be announced 24 June in Brisbane.
