Conrad Gargett brings Queensland Theatre’s Vision to Life
Conrad Gargett, one of Queensland’s oldest continuous architectural practices since 1890, has been a proud supporter of Australia’s third largest theatre company Queensland Theatre for several years.
Managing Director of Conrad Gargett Lawrence Toaldo stated, “As an avid supporter of creative industries, we are honoured to contribute to the extensive upgrade of Queensland Theatre’s performance venue, the Bille Brown Theatre. We are proud to bring our extensive experience in designing community and civic buildings, and are committed to delivering the vision of a sophisticated ‘home’ venue for Queensland Theatre to life.”
The dedicated project team led by Conrad Gargett architects Ian Mitchell and Nic Martoo has been intimately engaged with the visioning and design of this landmark project since 2016. The design presents a functional and industrial aesthetic that complements the history of the significant site, formerly home to the West End Brewery. The focus of the design is to heighten the intimate theatrical experience of the main studio space and position Queensland Theatre as an economic and sustainable entity for hosting performing arts, theatre and workshops for the creative arts community and general public.
Most recently the delivery of works has been appointed to construction company Hutchinson Builders which Conrad Gargett is elated to work with. The project continues to heavily rely upon the knowledge and expertise of the wider project team including leading engineering consulting firms Norman Disney & Young and Bligh Tanner. Resolving the functional complexities of the technical design aspects have been a focus of the theatre design. Emphasis has been given to the patron experience, holistically considered through the strategic planning of audience accessibility, amenity and comfort.
Conrad Gargett remains committed to supporting Queensland Theatre’s vision of being Australia’s finest theatre company by the 50th anniversary in 2020.
