Conrad Gargett’s Head of Landscape Architecture elected to the new Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) Board

The Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) has announced the Directors who will form a new national Board on 12 October 2018. Katharina Nieberler-Walker, design practice Conrad Gargett’s Principal and Head of Landscape Architecture, has been elected to the Board. The practice congratulates the other elected board members who include Peta-Maree Ashford (Western Australia), Claire Martin (Victoria), Chris Tidswell (New South Wales) and Shaun Walsh who is Chief Executive Officer at City Parkland Services (Roma Street and South Bank Parklands in Brisbane in Queensland).

Nieberler-Walker humbly stated, “I feel privileged to have been elected to the national Australian Institute of Landscape Architects Board. I look forward working with the other board members to serve the members and the profession of landscape architecture over the next two years.”

Since 2005 Nieberler-Walker has been an accomplished design leader with Conrad Gargett, with proficiency in managing award-winning complex large-scale landscape architecture projects in Australia and internationally. She is actively engaged in elevating the discipline of landscape architecture particularly biophilic design, and is an industry recognised leader in this specialist field. She was integral to the design and delivery of the healing and rehabilitation gardens, and green spaces at the world-renowned $1.5 billion Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital in Brisbane in Queensland.

Nieberler-Walker is passionate about delivering integrated people-oriented places that interweave natural and built elements to create a sense of place connected to community. As an advocate of sustainability and creative problem-solving through design thinking, she is committed to using landscape design as a means to confront complex 21st century challenges.
