Brisbane Queensland Australia
Conrad Gargett, a leading Australian architectural practice founded in Brisbane is proud to announce the launch of a commemorative book, CONRAD GARGETT 1890 – 2015. This solid historical manuscript documents in detail the substantial 125 year legacy of the practice. The book is illustrated by more than 500 photographs and original drawings from the practice archive, accompanied by comprehensive commentaries of the places that were created and the talented people who collaborated to produce architecture of consistent quality.
Bruce Wolfe, Managing Director of Conrad Gargett explained, “When we celebrated Conrad Gargett’s 125 year anniversary in 2015, the Company Directors expressed their shared desire to record this milestone and accomplishment in an enduring and encapsulating manner. As a result, our commemorative book was commissioned. We would like to express our gratitude to Dr Robert Riddel and the dedicated team who have carefully produced this beautifully bound manuscript.” “The history of Conrad Gargett is an immense story. Over the years there has been many people who have contributed to the practice, including a substantial number who proceeded to have significant careers in their own right. Yet the tradition of Conrad Gargett has consistently been one of creativity and collaboration, which remains the way the practice operates today. The many projects that have been produced are the work of talented teams with shared visions.”
Dr Robert Riddel, a Principal of Conrad Gargett stated, “The history as recorded in this handsome volume tells the story of the practice from its humble beginnings through the chronology of the more important projects and their background. Conrad Gargett today is diverse and well regarded, but by the understanding of how this was achieved and how much of our city and beyond has been formed by those within the practice, is a story worth sharing.” The book is edited by Riddel, designed by Michael Phillips and contains research by Donald Watson (1890-1918 chapters), Susan Hill (1918-1939 chapter) and Robert Riddel (1939 – 2015 chapters).
Today Conrad Gargett continues to deliver vision, innovative design and world-leading expertise as evidenced in this rich portfolio. With a global clientele spanning a variety of sectors, the practice has grown to a team of 150, in studios based in Brisbane, Sydney, Townsville and Newcastle. Conrad Gargett continues to invest in possibility and nurtures curiosity, as well as capability in their people to envision, explore and extend the potential of design. They apply advanced technologies to deliver enduring designs which are underpinned by rigorous research and collaboration. Conrad Gargett continues to enrich buildings and environments with the stories and requirements of the communities who engage with them.
