Brisbane Roar Football Club launches an Academy program at QUT’s new Sportsfield

Conrad Gargett designs and delivers the QUT State-of-the-Art Sportsfield

Conrad Gargett, a leading multi-disciplinary design firm, was privileged to design and deliver the new stadium with athletics track and sportsfield at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) Kelvin Grove campus in Brisbane. Well-patronised Brisbane Roar Football Club selected the inner-city complex to host their new Academy program, to develop the potential in talented young players throughout Brisbane and Australia, and to facilitate another pathway for selected junior players to become future elite footballers.

Lawrence Toaldo, Managing Director of Conrad Gargett, stated “We congratulate the Brisbane Roar Football Club for launching their Academy program at QUT’s new state-of-the-art sportsfield and stadium. The Club’s commitment to foster a youth program and promote football as a global game is commendable.” Over 100 registered skilled Brisbane Roar Academy players will train four times per week with high-level qualified coaches at the FIFA accredited facility delivering the best possible opportunity to experience an elite football development pathway.

Conrad Gargett’s design delivers a premium quality sporting complex to support trends in training models, complemented by a future-proofed covered carpark to support a long term campus masterplan aspiration. The expressive building and refined landscaping addresses environmental considerations, and enables safe pedestrian movement connecting the building to QUT’s upper level.

The artificial turf soccer field and synthetic athletics track caters for a variety of sports and events. Sportsfield lighting enables night-time activation and stimulates the scalloped façade structure generating a striking glowing stadium form in the evening. Carefully articulated openings foster cross-ventilation in addition to offering sightlines in and out of the playing surface, celebrating the outdoor activities that are enjoyed all year round in the sub-tropical climate. Accompanied by end of trip facilities, digital and graphic wayfinding, smart building technologies and environmentally sustainable design features, the QUT stadium and sportsfield encapsulates Conrad Gargett’s ongoing commitment to delivering enduring architecture for clients and users, in Brisbane and beyond.
