Queensland Theatre’s Bille Brown Theatre, Brisbane, Queensland
The Bille Brown Theatre is a major milestone in the history of Queensland Theatre. It represents the Company’s first ‘home’ theatre and a major asset to the arts community and general public. The refurbishment of the Bille Brown studio provides an extensive upgrade, with a reconfigured stage and a purpose built, fixed seating arrangement for over 350 patrons.
A complete reconfiguration of the internal studio space and supporting facilities accommodates a significantly increased patronage and provides greater flexibility to performance operations. A redesign of the main entry and the existing external courtyard allows for the rationalisation of public circulation paths into the theatre space and increases the amenity for patrons before and after performances.
The refurbished studio arrangement also utilises a specialised cable-net tensile walkway system over the performance and seating spaces, in lieu of a traditional catwalk system. This system significantly increases the efficiency of technical operations through the ease of accessibility to all areas above the studio space.
