Physical Fitness Complex, Moorebank Units Relocation, Holsworthy Barracks, Sydney
The Moorebank Units Relocation project comprises the relocation of the School of Military Engineering to Holsworthy Barracks, as well as the establishment of a series of supporting precincts including the new Physical Fitness Complex (including a cricket/AFL oval, rugby and soccer fields).
The new training facilities at Holsworthy Barracks are a specialist training centre for Australia’s Special Forces Unit and personnel under the School of Military Engineering and 5th Brigade. The twin basketball courts with associated spectator seating are designed to be naturally ventilated in summer with overhead radiant heaters warming the courts in winter.
The facility is sited on the highest point of the Base and is visible from the new main entry. The planning arrangements create strong links to the adjacent LIA, mess and SME Precinct. The facility also employs the use of breezeways to connect individual training areas.
