North Shore State School, Townsville
North Shore State School is to be a model school, offering superior community engagement, a high level of inclusiveness and alternative models of learning.
Located in North Shore Precinct, Burdell, a suburb within the Northern Beaches growth corridor of Townsville, the North Shore State School is a single P-6 campus with Learning Precincts supported by support and service facilities, including Administration, Information Services, and Student facilities.
The school is planned as a hierarchy of spaces, transitioning from public to private. The creation of the ‘great learning court” – a generous single landscape space with a series of intimate play and learning areas enables flexibility between the junior and senior school.
The built form offers a strong identity for the school campus, an appropriate character and visual language which engages proudly with the community. The proposed building design delivers simple building forms with efficient planning and passive design strategies, providing a creative and flexible learning environment that fosters the development of students and enhances their learning experience within a safe school environment.
