Harveys Restaurant & Bar
The brief called for a new bistro, unifying the former indoor and outdoor dining spaces and allowing for 100 covers, a larger bar area, a better planned kitchen, and internal toilets. The refurbishment sought to amalgamate and replan two separate structures and to better engage the landscape. Circulation and movements of staff were carefully considered and incorporated into the planning arrangement for best flow and maximum efficiency. The core philosophy was to create a well-planned space with subtle separation of the entry, reception, bar, dining and outdoor dining.
The new Harveys Bistro provides an engaging place for casual, unpretentious dining, offering a variety of experiences. New openings to the street create an outdoor dining atmosphere. From James Street the theatre of the bar and dining is visible to the public, with the active edges spilling onto the pavement. The interior seeks to be casual, timeless and sophisticated with a commitment to fine crafting and the honest use of materials. Cost effective materials and detailing were used to achieve a ‘value for money’, affordable outcome amid a volatile financial market.
